STORY: Duncan is an approximately 9-11 year old yellow Lab. I first sighted Duncan in my local kill shelter Memorial Day weekend 2003 where he was picked up as a stray. This is a unique shelter in that they have a very low euthanasia rate and never euthanize an adoptable dog. I was sure he would find a home quickly. The dogs have a room to play in and volunteers from The Shelter Connection to walk, train and play with them. I usually get a call from them when they have exhausted all efforts in finding a home. I went back to the shelter a few months later and to my amaze- ment, Duncan was still there. A friend of mine who has a 13 year old Lab offered to foster him for me. Duncan had lots of "old man" issues - skin tag growing inside his eye lid, a tumor on his back that resembled The Hunchback of Notre Dam, a grapefruit size tumor on his chest and one of the worse coats I've ever seen. Even though the shelter uses Kurunda beds, Duncan preferred the concrete floor which was hard on his old joints. A year has passed and Duncan has had his required surgeries and is a new dog. He's also a year older and hopes that Pain Free will make him feel even better.
